Below are a list of items found in Maniac Mansion, and where they can be found. Click the spoiler link to view information about how to get the item.
Badge
Dropped my the meteor police.
Badge Spoiler
Only obtainable while playing with Bernard. When you call the meteor police, and he enters the lab to arrest the meteor, he will drop the badge. The badge can be used to get passed Purple Tentacle. The office only drops the badge if the secret lab door is open.
Batteries
Not to be confused with the old batteries. Found inside the radio in the pool.
Batteries Spoiler
There is a radio floating on the chair in the pool. Use someone to drain the pool and then climb in the pool to get it. To drain the pool, you need to find the pool valve, which is located inside the grating (which is in front of the mansion). In order to open the grating, you have to be strong enough (use the Hunk-O-Matic to bulk up). Use the batteries for the flashlight before attempting to fix any wires.
Bottle of Developer
Found in the pantry, to the right of the dining room.

When trying to pickup the bottle of developer, it will shatter on the grating. If you have access to the area beneath the house (by using the Hunk-O-Matic, and opening the outside grating), you can use the sponge on the puddle of developer. Only Michael has the skills to use this item.
Bowl of Wax Fruit
Found in the artist room.

Wax fruit is more filling than regular fruit. Should satisfy someone's hungry appetite. Give this bowl to the Green Tentacle.

DO NOT give this to the hungry Green Tentacle (you need this later on). You need this to feed the man-eating plant, in order to be able to climb it later in the game.
Canned Goods
Found in the pantry, to the right of the dining room.

Card Key
Found in Wierd Ed's room.
Card Key Spoiler
The card is hidden in Weird Ed's room, behind his hamster. Weird Ed will not let you touch his hamster while he's in the room. Have one kid ring the doorbell, and when Ed answers the door, another kid can enter his room can take what you need. Pickup the hamster, then pickup the card key.
Cassette Tape
Found in the library (the back room with the broken staircase), behind the loose panel.

Great for recoding things. You can record high pitched shrieks (great for breaking chadeliers). Or, if you are playing with either Razor or Syd, you can record a music tape. Use the tape in the cassette player in the room with the piano, hit record and then play the piano.
Chainsaw
Found in the kitchen. Not very useful, but it's funny to see what the reactions are when you try to use it on certain things.

Funny Tie-In: In Maniac Mansion, there's no gasoline in the game for the chainsaw. In Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders, there is a can of gasoline, but nothing to use it in.
Cheese
Found in the kitchen fridge.

Hamsters like cheese. And hamster owners like to give their hamsters cheese. Give these to Wierd Ed and you'll gain his trust.
Demo Tape
Get from Green Tentacle
Demo Tape Spoiler
Only available when using Syd or Razor. Using Syd or Razor, create your own tape (by playing the piano and recording a song on the cassette tape). Go to the Green Tentacle's room and give the cassette tape to the Green Tentacle. He'll tell you about his band and give you the demo tape.
Dime
There are 4 dimes in the game. One can be found in the room with the wanted poster. Three dimes can be found in Weird Ed's room.
Dime Spoiler
The dimes are required to turn the coin operated "really powerful telescope" (in the room above the man-eating plant). One is in the room with the wanted poster (on the floor near the bed), and the other 3 can be found in Weird Ed's piggy bank ("Open" the piggy bank and it will break, then pick up the coins).
Envelope
Found in the safe above Edna's room.
Envelope Spoiler
This is an important item, used to solve the game with various characters. To gain access to the safe, you need get Edna out of the room. The best way is to sacrifice a kid to Edna - when she takes the kid to the dungeon, have another kid enter her room and go up the ladder (grab the small key on your way). When upstairs, open the painting. Now, have someone use the telescope to read the small print below the safe (make sure to use 2 dimes, and rotate the telescope to the right twice). The small print in the safe's code. DO NOT OPEN THE ENVELOPE. Use the sealed envelope in the microwave with the jar of water - This will unseal the envelope, and allow you to mail something.
Film
Found infront of the house, after you have given Weird Ed his package.

Only useable by Michael. Have Michael use the film in the dark room, with the sponge with developer.
Flashlight
Found on the kitchen counter.

At some point in the game, you need to turn off the circuit breakers (in the basement, off the dungeon) in order to fix some wires (in the room with the boarded windows). With the circuit breakers turned off, you need some light. The flashlight has no batteries when you pick it up. If you use the old batteries in the flashlight, the flashlight will last for a short time. But, you can find some fresh batteries in the radio (found in the pool). While the flashlight is turned on, you can use the tools on the wires.
Fruit Drinks
Found in the pantry, to the right of the living room.

Glass Jar
Found in the pantry, to the right of the living room.

Used to hold fluids. You can fill it with water from the kitchen sink, and use it in the microwave with the sealed envelope (to unseal the envelope). Or you can fill the jar with radioactive water from the pool, and use the water on the man-eating plant in the room with the typewriter.
Glowing Key
Found at the bottom of the pool.
Glowing Key Spoiler
This key opens the outer door to Dr. Fred's 'Secret' Lab. To obtain the glowing key, you need to empty the pool. First, have someone use the Hunk-O-Matic weight machine, then have that person go to the front of the house. There are some bushes you can pull, underneath which is a grating. If you are strong enough, you can force open the grating and get access to the water pipes. Have one kid turn the water handle under the house and the pool will drain, and have another kid enter the pool and grab the glowing key (and radio). You have a short amount of time to do empty the pool, and fill it up again, so be quick.
Hamster
Found in Ed's room. This is Ed's friend ... his only friend.

Weird Ed will not let you touch his hamster while he's in his room. Have one kid ring the doorbell, and when Ed answers the door, another kid can enter his room can take what you need. You have to pickup the hamster in order to get the purple card key (which will give you access to the meteor at the end of the game). If you are using Razor, try using the hamster in the microwave and then show the remains to Ed (be sure to save first).

Only useable if you are playing with Wendy. Have Wendy use the poorly written manuscript on the typewriter (in the room with the man-eating plant). Then, mail this manuscript to the publisher in order to get the publishing contract.
Old Batteries
Found in the kitchen refridgerator.

Paint Brush
Found in the artist room.

In the original version, the paint brush is not needed. In the enhanced version, you have to open the can of paint remover, and then use the paint brush on the paint remover. Then, use the paint brush on the paint splotch (in the room where the man-eating plant is). This will reveal a door.

Great for removing paint. In the original version, you can just use the paint remover on the paint splotch. In the enhanced version, use the brush on the opened can of paint remover. Then use the brush on the paint splotch (in the room where the man-eating plant is). This will reveal a door.
Prints
Created when the film is developed.

Only available when playing with Michael. When you give Weird Ed his package, a roll of film can be found near the steps infront of the mansion. Have michael develop the film in the dark room, and he will produce the prints (you will need the sponge with developer).
Publishing Contract
A publishing contract.

Obtainable only using Wendy. If you mailed in the meteor's edited manuscript to Three Guys Who Publish Anything (you will need the unsealed envelope, the demo tape, the stamps, and then type the address on the typewriter), you will recieve the record contract in the mail. Give the contact to Green Tentacle for some support later on.
Quarter
Found in the envelope, or inside of the meteor mess game machine.
Quarter Spoiler
There are two quarters in the game. One is located in the sealed envelope, which is located in the safe above Nurse Edna's room. The other is in Dr. Fred's possession. Once you have fixed the wires (in the room with the boarded windows), Dr. Fred will go and play a video game (you'll see a cut scene). If you have obtained the small key fron Nurse Edna's room, you can use the small key to open the video game and get the quarter.
Radiation Suit
Found in the secret lab.
Radiation Suit Spoiler
Open the locker in the secret lab, and pickup the radiation suit. You must put on the radiation suit before attempting to handle the meteor.
Radio Tube
Found in the living room (the room with the chandelier) inside the old radio.
Radio Tube Spoiler
Bernard is the only one able to pick up the radio tube. Take the radio tube into the room with the wanted poster and use the radio tube in the tube socket. Now, when you use the radio, you are able to call the meteor police.
Record
Found in the Green Tentacle's room.
Record Spoiler
This record is required in order to obtain the rusty key, that is hanging in the chandelier in the living room. Use this record on the Victrola (in the room with the piano). Note that the vase shatters. Record the high pitching sound on a cassette tape, then bring the cassette tape to the living room (with the chandelier). Play the cassette tape on the cassette player and the sound will shatter the chandelier and the key will fall. Also, for fun, play the record in Green Tentacle's room (save the game first).

Rusty Key
The key is found hanging in the living room chandelier.

To get the key, you need to have the cassette tape (from the hidden panel in the library) and the record (from Green Tentacle's room). Use these items in the Victrola and the cassette player in the room with the piano. Record the record's screeching sound onto the tape (note that the vase breaks). Use the cassette tape in the living room cassette player and the chandelier should shatter, throwing the key onto the floor. This key unlocks the dungeon door and is not required to finish the game (as there are other ways to enter/leave the dungeon).
Silver Key
Found in the basement, on a hook near the circuit breakers.

The silver key opens the door in the pantry, that leads to the pool.
Small Key
Found in Nurse Edna's room, on her end table.

You will have to sacrifice one kid to the dungeon to distract Nurse Edna while someone else enters the room and takes the key. Use this key to open the video game machines.
Sponge
Found in the bathroom with Dead Cousin Ted.
Sponge Spoiler
The sponge can be used to soak up liquid. When you reach for the bottle of developer (in the pantry, to the right of the dining room), the bottle falls off the shelf and shatters on the grate on the floor. If you have the sponge, go to the front of the mansion, move the bushes and open the grating (you will only be able to open the grating if you have used the Hunk-O-Matic three times already). Inside the grating will be a puddle of developing fluid. Use the sponge to get the liquid. The developing fluid is only useful with Michael (to develop the film).
Stamps
Found by trying to open the package.

At some point in the game, the doorbell will ring. This is the delivery man leaving off a package. If you are quick enough, you can have someone grab the package before Weird Ed answers the door. On attempting to open the package, some unused stamps will fall off. You can use these stamps to mail your own package later in the game.
Tentacle Chow
Found in the pantry (to the right of the dining room).

Tools
Found in the trunk of the Edsel (in the garage).

You need the yellow key to open the trunk of the Edsel, and be strong enough to open the garage (use the Hunk-O-Matic three times). The tools can be used to fix the wires in the room with the boarded window (to the right of the room with the man-eating plant). They can also be used to fix the phone in the Library.
Water
The empty glass jar can be found in the pantry, to the right of the dining room. In the kitchen, you can fill the glass jar with regular water.
Water Spoiler
This is an important part of the game, and many people initially overlook this puzzle. When you get the envelope from the safe above Nurse Edna's room - DO NOT OPEN THE ENVELOPE! Go to the kitchen and use the glass jar of water in the microwave. Then, use the sealed envelope in the microwave. Then, turn on the microwave. The steam from the water will unseal the envelope, allowing you to use the envelope for other purposes.
Water (Radioactive)
The empty glass jar can be found in the pantry, to the right of the dining room. If you use the glass jar in the pool, it will fill with radioactive water
Water (Radioactive) Spoiler
The greenish water can be used on the man-eating plant in the room with the typewriter. This will allow the plant to grow. If you then use the Pepsi on the man-eating plant, it will "burp" and you will be able to climb the plant into the next room.
Water Faucet Handle
Found in the Garage.

In order to open the garage, you need to be strong enough - lift weights on the Hunk-O-Matic weight machine (top floor). Use the faucet in the shower, in the upstairs bathroom with Dead Cousin Ted. The faucet will allow you to turn on the water and move Dead Cousin Ted. Turning off the water will reveal Edna's phone number.

Yellow Key

This key is used to open the trunk of the car in the garage, so you can get the tool box. In order to open the garage, you need to be strong enough - lift weights on the Hunk-O-Matic weight machine (top floor). The key can also be used to start the car (although, do NOT start the car until the meteor is in the trunk at the very end of the game).
